1. Download the file
Start with the ChinaBoundary data page and save china.geojson. Keep a copy of the original for reproducibility.
2. Add the file to QGIS
- Open QGIS and create a new project.
- Choose Layer → Add Layer → Add Vector Layer.
- Choose File as the source type, select
china.geojson, and click Add. - Open the attribute table and inspect its geometry, fields and feature count.
3. Confirm its coordinate reference system
Do not assume a file’s coordinates have already been transformed for a specific web basemap. Inspect the layer CRS and test alignment against a trustworthy reference layer. GeoJSON coordinates are conventionally longitude/latitude in WGS 84 under RFC 7946, but legacy exports require validation.
4. Style and export
Use layer symbology to set boundary stroke and fill. To export, right-click the layer and select Export → Save Features As. Choose the desired format and an appropriate CRS.
GIS file format conversion does not establish legal authority, survey accuracy or permission to publish a map.
